**This essay corresponds with the Evaluation of Sources assignment.**
Choose a topic that interests you and that you’d like to know more about. You can begin with an article or topic from class, or choose your own. Your objective is to conduct additional research in order to more fully understand the topic, and then write a paper that explains the topic, addresses any controversy, and reaches a conclusion about what the research ultimately says.
This paper is NOT based on your opinion. It doesn’t matter what you personally agree or disagree with. Your objective is to present the facts and research about the topic and then reach a conclusion. For this reason, I recommend NOT choosing a topic you have strong feelings about or believe you can discuss objectively.
From your evaluation of sources, you must choose a minimum of four credible sources that present accurate, informed, well-researched, and convincing information on the topic. Use these sources to explain the topic and any controversy or debate surrounding it.
This is also the first paper that is required to be written exclusively in the third person (no use of I, me, my, you, your). We are trying to adopt a more formal, detached, informative tone with this paper, as well as learn to make deliberate choices about how to use first, second, and third person.
Goals:
Define the topic/issue.
Explain any controversy or misunderstanding about it.
Summarize the research
Draw a conclusion
This is not simply a report, biography, or history lesson on the topic. You need to explain what makes this topic relevant and important.
