Write a reflection Paper for “Elon Musk-tesla SpaceX and the quest for a fantastic future” MUST HAVE READ THE BOOK.
Some students have asked for guidance in completing the outline for the biography of a failed or successful business or leader.
Below, please find some suggestions.
1. What is your thesis or point you are making about your choice?
-Why did you choose your person?
2. YOU SHOULD ask if your person understood the differences between MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP?
Remember to give several examples from the book to support your claim they did understand the differences or did not always?
3. Below, find a suggestion of a model to determine if your person was a great or so-so leader.
To help us understand the difference(s) you could use some patterns of successful leadership models from our textbook.
ASK BY USING THE FIVE PRACTICES OF EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP IF YOUR CHOICES WAS A GOOD OR EVEN GREAT LEADER.
DID THEY:
*MODEL THE WAY: Did you choice not practice what they “preached” or did they get their hands “dirty” working with their people?
A leader works twice as hard as an employee but not in a bullying manner, but in a challenging but inspiring manner.
*INSPIRE A SHARED VISION: Did your choice motivate through fear or trust? Think McGregor’s Theory of X or Y.
*CHALLENGE THE PROCESS: This is an expansion of “thinking out the box” in that the leader exhibits a blend of creativity and practicality.
*ENABLE OTHERS TO ACT: Does your choice allow others to take the initiative or do they micro manage?
*ENCOURAGE THE HEART: Does your leader constructively criticize? Do they listen not only with their ears but also with their intuition? Are they wise, or emotionally intelligent?
4. WHAT KIND OF A MORAL LEADER WAS YOUR CHOICE?
– YOU COULD USE THE BLACKBOARD LIST OF BAD TRAITS, SUCH AS ARROGANCE, MELODRAMA, ETC.
FOR EXAMPLE, DID YOUR LEADER CHANGE THEIR BAD LEADERSHIP HABITS?
DID THEY, LIKE COVEY, AS HE DID WITH HIS OWN EXAMPLES, CHANGE THEIR TOXIC OR WEAK BEHAVIOR.
COVEY AND HIS WIFE “RELEARNED’ HOW TO HELP THEIR SON WHEN HE WAS STRUGGLING WITH LIFE AND SCHOOL
– YOU COULD USE KOHLBERG’S MODEL OF MORAL MATURITY.
REMEMBER TO CITE EXAMPLES FROM THE BOOK
5. Address the role of creativity, as we discussed in the lecture on 10/18.
-How imaginative is or was your biography choice?
-What innovations, such as technological, social, or organizational, did they contribute to their industry or profession?
5. IN YOUR CONCLUSION, YOU SHOULD ADDRESS WHAT YOU WOULD EMULATE OR NOT FOLLOW, IN TERMS OF LEADERSHIP SKILLS, YOUR CHOICE.
AGAIN, CITE CONCRETE EXAMPLES FOR THE WORK LIFE OF YOUR CHOICE, AND APPLY THEM TO YOUR OWN LIFE.
I would suggest you blend your insights from your own reading of the real or proper bio of your subject,
with those listed above.
