For this project you will write a mini-research essay on the lives of three slaves who lived in the United States during the 1800’s. These must be actual people. This essay must be written in MLA format with citations. You may quote from sources but are not to plagiarize in any way. Any type of plagiarism will receive a score of 0/70.

Required components:

Typed and double spaced
Minimum of 2.5 pages (no title page)
Standard margins
MLA format including a works cited page (not part of 2.5 pages)
Submitted via Crespi Connect Drop Box in under a Microsoft Word or Pages file
You may NOT research Frederick Douglass since you read his autobiography over the summer.
For each person researched, include:
Years lived- may be approximate if some dates are unknown
Area where he or she lived
Roles as a slave (worked in the field, house, shipyard, etc.)
Family members and their location
Was this person eventually able to obtain his or her freedom? If so how?
Quality of life post-slavery (if applicable)
Particular stories of hardship as a slave or free person
Role in any form of slave resistance (Ex. Underground Railroad, revolts)
