Assignment Sheet
Academic writing in all fields requires that students examine evidence, discover their own questions or explore problems set by the instructor, and use the evidence to advance their thesis or argue a solution. In advanced courses and in professional life, one is often also required to seek out the information necessary from appropriate, authoritative sources. This essay leads students through a process that should be foundational for their other coursework and, in some cases, their professional careers.
Assignment: You will write an 8-10 page essay (not including the works cited page) that explores a question of your own that has developed from the topic/subject you have chosen. Much like the past three essays, you will formulate some kind of argument. This final research essay should logically develop a complex argument. In developing your argument, you should fully explain reasoning rather than simply relying on descriptions. You should incorporate sources that are properly introduced, cited (this means a works cited page), integrated, and explained in terms of the argument.
The essay should focus on textual evidence from at least FIVE sources. This means that you must find a minimum of five sources and use them in your essay. Sources should be from a book or scholarly journal
