Write a research paper based on Michael Calabrese’s Piers Ploughman, A Version.Professor Calabrese, in his “Acknowledgments” to his Translation of the A Version, explains the ways in which reading a medieval text can serve modern communities as they debate issues of equity, food justice, corruption, responsibility, virtue, piety, money, faith, labor, and salvation. Engage with his assessment based on your reading of the selections from Piers Plowman in the book– Prologue, P1, P2, P4, P5 of the A Version. Cite statements he makes in his Acknowledgments (at least three statements) and of course, from the text of the poem itself (at least 5 short quotations from the Translation of A), as you explore whether the poem can be relatable to modern society, or–if you disagree with the Professor’s assertions–indicate through examples why the poem fails to relate to modern concerns. Do you agree or disagree that modern reading communities (in any historical moment) can benefit from reading Piers Plowman and other ancient texts? Engage with (and quote from) two other ancient texts (Genesis and Gilgamesh) to help support your answer. Tell us why you would (or would not) include Piers Plowman and other texts in the modern curriculum. Outside research of any kind is completely forbidden.
