Writing both summaries and paraphrases for college papers can be tricky, but it’s an important skill to have. This assignment gives you practice with both.
Read the essay “What? I Failed? But I Paid for Those Credits! Problems of Students Evaluating Faculty” (Ballenger, pp. 93-96)
Write a summary of the essay using the techniques described in Ballenger (2-4 sentences).
Write a paraphrase* of the first full paragraph on p. 96, “Students also believe that the best professors. . . .”
*Remember that a paraphrase should be roughly the same length as the original text.

Criteria
According to the class syllabus, participation posts will be graded on the following criteria. A few links have been added if you need further clarification. Criteria will be assessed on a scale of 1-5 (5 being “excellent”).
Paragraph Structure: Paragraphs are appropriate length (4-5 sentences) and are well structured (each presents a clear topic sentence; sentences follow one another in a logic order)
Content: Paragraphs include direct quotes and/or specific examples to demonstrate the student’s points. All aspects of the assignment question have been answered sufficiently.
Mechanics: Sentences are complete, quotes are integrated according to APA style conventions, technical terms are used correctly, there are no spelling or grammar errors.
