Final Paper – Comparative States Politics Paper
The purpose of this final paper is to give you the opportunity to
demonstrate the knowledge that you have gained about Texas politics and
then compare it to the politics of your adopted state. This paper will
comprise 10% of your total grade in this class. Don’t worry too much
about doing extra research for this paper because you should have done
it already if you have been doing your discussion forum assignments
properly.
Make sure you have read the rubric (see attached below)
Your paper is to compare and contrast Texas with your adopted state.
You should find a significant difference between the Texas political
system and the political system of your adopted state. This political
difference can be attributed (caused by) the political culture,
geography, history, or some other cause. Feel free to recycle ideas
that you might have had from your posts in Chapter 1 – Political Culture, People, and Economy of Texas. This will be your cause. Choose at least two discussion posts that you have made and recycle that research and those ideas into your paper as the effect
(remember cause and effect? Professors love students that demonstrate
cause and effect … we call it critical thinking). Here are the details
for this assignment:
Make sure you use Word Count to find out the total # of words in your document.
Compare and contrast Texas with your adopted state.
Discussions of your adopted state should be about 20% of your final paper’s word count.
Write a thesis statement demonstrating a significant difference
between Texas and your adopted state. This difference can be attributed
to political culture, geography, history, and / or another cause of the
student’s choice.
Make sure you also have a strong concluding paragraph.
There is a multimedia component to this assignment as well.
Include at least one chart or graph so that you can compare data from your adopted state with Texas
Make sure you have an introduction paragraph, and a works cited (or bibliography) page. Your paper should be in APA format.
