Find a news article from a newspaper/news website that contains some quantitative data. If you use an online article, remember to retrieve the full url of the article first. This should be the url of the actual page that can be found in the box at the top of the browser window.
Write a very brief summary of the article in your own words, and make sure your summary includes whatever you can see about the data and where it came from. Don’t copy what the article says. You will get NO credit if you copy and paste directly from the article!
Write a brief analysis in which you apply one or two concept we learned to evaluate how the newspaper article made use of quantitative data. How did the article make effort to avoid typical problems mentioned in the textbook and additional reading? If the article you read has some mistakes in using the quantitative data, please point out these mistakes with the concepts we learnt.
At the end of your document, write a reference for the news article, in the following format:
Author’s name, year, “headline of the article, in quotes,” name of newspaper in italics, date of the newspaper issue, section and page where the article appeared. If the article has an author’s name, begin with that. If not, begin with the headline. Include the url of the article at the end if you use an online article.
