1) Write a warrant-based argument in which you defend or challenge the view that anyone elected to public office (mayor, governor, secretary of state, president of the United States, and so on) is obliged to live a morally exemplary life. Be sure to define “morally exemplary.” In other words, should our leaders be “good people” or just be good at what they do? You have MLK’s discussion of self-purification. Our readings about Socrates (Crito and Phaedo), Bill Clinton, and Cesar Chavez will help develop your writing on this topic. Feel free to use more contemporary figures as your examples. What warrant will you establish as the basis for why our leaders should or shouldn’t be considered role models?
NOTE: my stance is that they should be “good people”
