Write a well-developed, well-organized essay about a literary technique (listed below) in a short story from the reading list. A well-written essay of this kind will typically be between 600 and 800 words long.
In your introduction, using the conflict of your story, discuss the author’s theme. Then explain how a specific technique in the story helps to reveal that theme. The body of the essay will give examples of that technique from the story. Choose one of the following techniques for your analysis:

What Your Essay Needs
Your introduction paragraph needs to mention the title and author, the main conflict and the theme that comes from the resolution. It should also mention the technique that you will discuss. The technique should help us understand the theme of the story.
Use specific examples in an organized way. You don’t have to follow the order of the story; instead use the examples in the order that makes sense for your essay’s purpose.
Don’t retell the plot of the story. The readers of your essay have already read the story and don’t need all the details again. (Notice in the “sample” below how the writer uses detail without repeating the story.)
Write about the story in the present tense. (We always write about literature as though it’s happening now. See the “sample” by clicking on the link below.)
Quote details from the story or paraphrase events as evidence for your points.
Write a short conclusion that mentions the author’s theme and sums up the way the technique works in the story.
