Writing Assignment Number One
Your first writing assignment (which we will use in part to get acquainted with each other) involves describing a person. Each of the options below involves writing an essay about a person. The person can be yourself now, yourself in the future, or a person that has influenced the person that you are now or the person you hope to be in the future. You need to have enough to say to write at least three pages but no more than four pages double spaced. The person can be someone you know well or someone you have learned about. If you write about a person you don’t know personally you must use correct MLA style from In Conversation. Our focus with this paper is on use of evidence to support our ideas. I will collect this essay in the weekly module on the due date.
Option A: Write about a person that you deeply respect who has been successful professionally in their life. The person can be someone who you know personally like your mother or father or a person from your life such as your neighbor or your own doctor. It can also be a public figure or an industry leader in your chosen field. Keep in mind if you choose to write about a public figure then you will have to document where you are getting information about this person for your paper and follow correct MLA style. Use of MLA style includes using credible sources for your information. Describe both this person’s skills, talents, qualities, and abilities and how this person’s skills, talents, qualities and abilities have helped them be successful in their career. You may also need to include some basic background information about your chosen person’s life, training and schooling. This training and schooling should be directly related to career development. Don’t resort to writing a simple time line of the person’s life. The person may be direct, faithful, honest, mature, self-confident, or ambitious.
