Write about the short story “Reeling for the Empire,” by Karen Russell. Just like on the Regents, you must use evidence from the text to support your claims. You can use one of the central ideas that we came up with together in class, or one of your own (though you might want to run your central idea by the teacher to make sure it is one that you can legitimately prove/argue based on the text). You can use the central idea templates on our Schoology page to help!
Your essay should have 5 paragraphs: An introduction, 2 body paragraphs with 1 piece of evidence each, 1 writing strategy paragraph with 1 piece of evidence and a conclusion. You MUST use SYMBOLISM as your writing strategy!
**You should highlight evidence/quotes you include from the text** If the majority of your paragraph is highlighted, then you need more of your own analysis! Each body paragraph should be 7-10 sentences NOT INCLUDING quotes!
Your essay must be in the proper format: Times New Roman 12 font, double spaced, with indented paragraphs, appropriate capitalization, etc. You should also cite (i.e. write a bibliography) for any outside sources/information you include.
Any essay containing plagiarized/non-cited material gets an automatic ZERO. You should not be copying anything from the internet!
