In the first paragraph, include the author’s name and the title of the article. Also explain the author’s main point in this argument and his/her reasoning.
After that, discuss what this author does to make his/her argument persuasive. In doing so, you may want to include some or all of the following:
What is his/her strongest argument and his/her weakest argument? What makes them strong or weak? (Give examples from the article.)
Persona: How does the author present himself/herself in the article? (Give examples from the article.)
Audience: Who is his intended audience? How do you know? What does he/she do to persuade his/her audience? Is it effective? (Give examples from the article.)
Does the author use emotional appeals? If so, are they effective? (Give examples from the article.)
What methods/strategies does the author use to convince his readers? (There is an entire list of methods on page 177 of your textbook.)
Finally, evaluate whether you think the author’s argument was persuasive to his/her intended audience. Then explain why you think the argument was persuasive or was not persuasive.
