Write an autoethnography describing various groups (five) you have belonged to and the ways they influenced your views of other groups, your relationship to ‘dominant culture’, and the tendency to look at ‘same/similar’ as good and ‘different’ as less good or inferior. Expect to come up with 4-5 groups that you identify with to write about.

Keep in mind the five master statuses (race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social class, disability) but you do not have to limit yourself to just these five. Other statuses you can include: age, religion, immigration status, language, occupation, education, family structure (mother/sister/daughter/father/son/brother), region/city/neighborhood, hobbies, interest groups, etc. You might start with your family, analyze different statuses that played a role in your upbringing, and your experience growing up, and finish with your master statuses at this point in your life.
The paper should be 3-5 pages, double-spaced. Plan on a good 1-2 paragraphs for each group you identify with. There should be clear evidence of reading the assigned section of the book.
