Write an essay in which you substantiate HER argument about the
value of feminism as a political ideology. At the end of your essay,
indicate what a study of feminist thought/theory has enabled you to
see or analyze which you had not seen before taking this class.
II. Based on the readings in the section of our text and hand-outs on
post-colonial/Third World/African/
transnational feminisms, discuss some of the main themes that
feminists who live outside the West write about and engage in
activisms around as it relates to gender and other human rights issues.
III. In a short essay, based on the readings under the category of
“contemporary U.S. black feminisms,” how would you describe major
themes in the writings of contemporary black feminists (writings from
the 60s to the present) and the nature of their various activisms either
as individuals or in organizations. Take into consideration, as well,
the documentaries and writings on or by Lorraine Hansberry, Audre
Lorde, bell hooks, and E. Frances White.
IV. Summarize the main arguments in Gary L. Lemons’ book Black
Male Outsider and explain why he self-identifies as a black male feminist
AND how he operationalizes this concept in his personal and professional life. Be
specific.
