This, as you know, is a very unusual time in our history.
There is no doubt that we have been dealing with a pandemic situation for nearly a year, and one that will be with us for some time to come. It has been a good time to watch Federalism in action, to see how the states act, and what role the Federal government has during this time. The Constitution of the U.S. and the states, which we spend so much time discussing in class, sets the rules for us, and for our government, and it is most important that these “rules” are all written down for everyone to see.
For this discussion, watch and read the following. Then, react to at least one issue about your freedoms during this crisis. Think about your First Amendment rights to worship as you choose, to assemble with others as you choose, etc. How do you react to the challenges examined in the following sample stories and discussions? How have states and governors acted to protect our rights and how do you think they have crossed any lines and violated our rights. You are welcome to look at other stories and discuss them, as well. There are many.

Remember, the original post must be YOUR thoughtful and complete thoughts. Short answers won’t receive credit. Just agreeing with someone in the replies won’t receive credit. This discussion opportunity requires depth of thought (it is suggested you refer to the book concepts or Constitution, or another credible source). This is a chance for you to think about what your freedoms mean to you in times of crisis and how many of them you are willing to give up, when, and for how long, and how you think governors should respond and based on what criteria.
