Students will assume major responsibility for a program or project(s) in the health care organization, commensurate with the student’s competencies and desired growth areas, as well as with the health care organization’s needs. The program(s)/project(s) will be discussed and approved by the Preceptor and the Faculty Supervisor in advance.
The Internship Project(s) can be any project(s) for which the student has significant responsibility and should be identified, if possible, in your Learning Contract and/or Learning Logs. Project(s) categories could include: market research, developing a program, assisting in an ongoing quality improvement activity including data collection, analysis and report preparation, working on patient satisfaction measurement or processes, exploring a new product or service lines, competitor analysis, preparation of a business plan, determining return on investments of equipment or services, process improvements and solving operational problems or bottlenecks. Note – You are encouraged to use tools/frameworks that have been taught in class or that you may have learned during the internship. Examples include the use of Balanced Scorecards, Fishbone Diagrams, SWOT, Organizational Assessment, Project Planning tools such as SMART Objectives, GANTT charts, etc. Your project should be an agenda item for your midterm and final meetings.
