Families operate by a set of rules derived largely from their
cultural identity, which is transmitted from parents to children. The
rules determine how the family members identify, define, and attempt to
solve problems. The cultural communities to which they belong tend to
reinforce the rules. Individuals and families may be subject to more
than one set of rules. They are members of their family’s and
community’s culture, but some family members may also be subject to the
rules of cultures that other family members are not. For example, an
individual may be a member of the deaf culture, the homosexual culture,
or a religious culture that differs from his/her family of origin.
For this post, discuss any multicultural (remember this does not
necessarily mean multi-ethnic) issues that are present in your own
family. This could include, but is certainly not limited to, the issues
in the example. List them first and then examine how the family as a
unit is impacted by them and how they are addressed in your family.
Write in complete sentences and be sure to integrate your weekly reading
material as possible and include proper APA citations used to create
your post.
