Final Exam Essay
Due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 9

You will write a Final Exam Essay (with
an introduction, body, and conclusion) of at least 600 words in which you
analyze two literary texts in response to one of the following
questions:

Analyze the
significance of gender stereotypes and/or the power dynamic between
genders in any two texts we’ve discussed this semester. Quote directly from both texts in your
response. You can choose your own texts
(except for those you’ve already written about for the Analytical Essay or
Research Essay) or use one of these suggested pairings:
“Hairbands” and “Phenomenal Woman”
“Sexy” and “Happy Endings”
“No Name Woman” and “My Name”
“Crazy They Call Me”
and “Heroics”
“Two Kinds” and “Vacation”

or

Write
an analysis in which you compare and/or contrast any two texts we’ve discussed
this semester (except for those you’ve already written about for the
Analytical
Essay or Research Essay). Quote directly
from both texts in your response.

Remember to develop a clear thesis that
is stated in your introduction, provide literary analysis, quote directly from both
texts to support your ideas, explain all quotations in your own words, and
avoid plot summary. Do not refer to any online
or other sources not discussed in class.

In-text citations with the author’s last
name and the page number (if there is one) are required. A title and Works Cited page are not
required.
