Persuasive writing, like informative writing, must integrate unity, support, coherence, and sentence skills to be effective. It is like the other types of writing you have completed in the course, as you make a point and then support the point. However, persuasive writing is a little more difficult, as you must also seek others’ agreement of your point.
These are three common types of persuasive writing:
Opinion Essay – a position is set forth that the writer defends with solid reasons.
Pro/Con Essay – a topic is examined for what’s good and what’s bad about an idea before the writer arrives at an evaluation.
Problem-Solution Essay – a writer tries to convince the reader of a problem and then proposes solution(s) that the reader should also agree.
