B. Imagine we can time travel and one of us comes upon Socrates. Socrates inquires, “What is the moon made of?” Our friend answers, “It is made of cheese, of course.” Socrates asks our friend if it is possible that the moon could be made of something other than cheese, but our friend refuses to consider that the moon is made of anything other than cheese. When Socrates asks why our friend believes this and they say, “Well, that’s just what my daddy always told me.”
This answer would be unacceptable to Socrates. Why? What was his famous phrase? What did it mean?
