Students are welcome to directly insert any relevant artwork, photos, songs, other texts, etc they have previously encountered with the work they are discussing into their diary.

I am looking for your own thoughts and experience of reading/watching the texts. The instruction asks this specifically and that you talk about the texts in depth.

For the diary entries, only focus on the “text,” aka fictional works and films. There is no need for you to write responses to academic writings.
The academic writings are like the readings that are scholarly (so anything that’s not fiction and had actual analysis). So from all the readings of the week, teacher wants us to choose only from the fictional stories or movies to write about.
The diary isn’t really opinion based, but it’s kind of what we talk about in class just in written form? What I did was focus on a specific theme or topic about society at the time and showed how that was portrayed in the stories. I’m not a big history person so I don’t really mention like the historical stuff but I’m sure you can mention that stuff!
So it’s basically just informal writing, literally like the assignment says, it’s a diary entry. You choose 2 pieces of work we interacted with this week (whether it be film or literature) and you write how you felt about it while reading/watching, which parts stood out to you, and overall just an analysis in your own perspective. Nothing formal, as this is is just a diary entry, not academic writing. Literally, just think of it as you are writing in your diary about how you felt after interacting with the film/texts.
