please make sure you support the gathered information with evidence. And to make sure, this final project requires powerpoint presentation as a first part and a written second part.
Final Project:
Introduction
The purpose of this project is to conduct an examination of the current state of the tourism industry in your community. The Final Project has two parts
Final Project Stage 1:
Fashioned after a regular feature of the NY Times, the first part of this project is to prepare a photo essay of what tourists should do if they only had 36 hours to spend in your community. Consider things such as where you recommend people eat, stay, how they will travel around as well as to or from the destination and what they should do to get an authentic tourist experience. Be sure to include captions that add value—not merely describe the images depicted.
Present your photo essay as either a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation to your instructor. As a starting point review some of the columns from the NY Times to get a feel for what kinds of images to include.
Final Project Stage 2: Sector Perspectives and Careers
Thinking back to the Stage 1 of this project, your task is to now choose three separate businesses from three separate industry sectors that were included in the photo essay and provide the following information for each.
Note
Your selection needs to include businesses from three of the five identified tourism sectors: Accommodation, Food and Beverage, Recreation and Entertainment, Travel Services and Transportation.
Your examination of the different sectors should allow you to obtain a comprehensive overview of the interconnectedness nature of the tourism industry.
As part of the write–up for this section of the project consider providing answers to the following questions:
What specific (to that sector) industry associations do think the chosen business should belong to? For example, should the restaurant belong to the provincial restaurant association and if so why? What would the benefits be?
What are the main issues that this association is working on? On their website check tables such as industry news or updates.
Do you think that the issues being discussed by these associations on a global, national, provincial or regional level are or should be important to the local business that you have identified? Why?
What assistance do you think could be provided to the identified business by the local DMO or Chamber of Commerce?
How important do you think festivals and events are to the business specifically? Do you have any evidence to support this?
Do you see any evidence that this business sponsors local events? If not, should they be? Why?
Do you see any evidence that this business cooperates/partners with other sectors. For example, does the local restaurant encourage bus tours to stop?
Once you have completed this portion of the project, you should conclude your report with a 4 to 6 page reflection on how this activity may have shaped your perspective of the industry. As well, include some reflection on your impressions of whether or not you believe the individual businesses understand the complexity of tourism. For example, do you get a sense that they understand the bigger picture of what the tourism industry is? Do you think they see the interrelationship between the various sectors? Do they understand the role of organizations such as DMOs and other industry associations? If you could offer them any advice about the tourism industry what would that be?
The student must be able to show:
