Reflective Reading Journals will be submitted in odd-number weeks, each worth 12 points. Each student is required to address the writing prompt and write a 500 word essay that uses quotes from the specific week’s readings, minimum 2 articles must be referenced. The journals, at least two pages in length, will be required as a tool for you to synthesize and organize your thoughts pertaining to the course readings. This tool is designed for you to keep an on-going journal of your understanding of the concepts and issues raised in the readings. It is not designed for you to merely summarize, rather, it is designed for you to SYNTHESIZE and ANALYZE and CRITIQUE the readings. Each page of the journal should begin with the prompt and have a supporting quote from the readings that address the writing prompt, issue or theme from the reading, followed by your understanding and explanation of the topic. Entries should include your observations, as well as interpretations of readings that help you understand the topic of the writing prompt. You could also explore how the author’s arguments have made you rethink your views. This requirement is also designed to assist the instructor in assessing your progress throughout the quarter. Summaries are not accepted for this assignment. Only PDF’s and Word documents are accepted. NO Google doc links please. File uploads will be posted for all students to read.
