Poem analyze

PROMPT: In this short and informal multiple-paragraph essay (2-3 pages), examine one poem from the following list, and write a “close-reading” where you use several ideas from your “poetry goggles” to interpret how a reader can observe various techniques the author uses to capture the subject matter, theme(s), and/or possible purpose(s) of the poem. Important: DO NOT refer to outside sources for this assignment.

Week One poems by Andrew Turner, Vickie Vertiz, Kareem Tayyar, or Mary Oliver
Any poem in RCC MUSE 2021
Any poem in Teka Lark’s The Queen of Inglewood
Select 4-6 “poetry goggles” elements relevant to the poem that you will analyze/connect to the text, for example:
Form and use of space on the page–including line breaks and stanza shape
Repetition of words and phrases, or other sound/rhythm techniques
Voice/tone
Images and figurative language (such as simile, metaphor, or personification)
Allusion
Persona
POV (point of view)
