Psychology Critical Review

A critical review of a journal article is an evaluation of an article’s strengths, weaknesses and validity. Good reviews convey the content of the article and use an integrated approach. The review is not simply a summary of what the author stated. The review critically examines the article by looking at methodology, statistics, results, theoretical framework, and the author’s purpose. Include controversies and inconsistencies in the results when they appear in the article. Look for the strengths and weaknesses of how the author conducted the study. Consider whether or not the study is generalizable to other settings or whether the findings relate only to the specific setting of the study.
Ask yourself why the author conducted the study and what he/she hoped to gain from the study. Critically evaluating an article will require determining how reliable a source presents its information and how well it meets your needs as a research writer.

Write at least a 200 word Critical Article Review using APA format. The article must be on the topic you have chosen for your final Psychology paper. You must create an original title for your paper. Please use the Keiser University Library for a peer reviewed journal article.

Critical Article Review Rubric

Provide the article citation in APA format.
Author’s last name, First initial. (Date). Title of article. Name of the Publication, volume number, page number.

Where: In this section, describe where the article was found. Where did this article appear? Is this a reasonable or credible journal? Is the publishing entity respectable? Responsible?

Who: Who wrote/published the article? What are their credentials? Are the credentials appropriate for their argument?

When: Is this current information? If yes, will the information stand the “test of time”? If no, is it outdated or is it classic?

What: What argument is/are the author(s) making? Is it logical? Based on what is known on the topic (theoretical framework), is it reasonable? What evidence is given to support the argument? Is there evidence that refutes these claims?

How: How was the supporting/refuting evidence collected? Is this credible? What kind of evidence needs to be gathered to test the argument? Did the author(s) do this? Summarize the quality of the article, for example whether it is considered to be a worthwhile and trustworthy article. Was the author biased? Could the author have underlying motives? Is the article valid?
Summary: In this section, provide a brief summary of the article addressing questions posed in the assignment for the critical review topic. What was learned from the article? Any additional thoughts?

NOTE: Do not simply answer yes or no to the questions above. Write a thoughtful response to each section.
