The exam essay should include (as a mininmum) the following:
• An introduction to the topic identifying the aim of environmaental criminology and
crime prevention, focusing on how it is incorporated into policng policy and practices.
• A statement of why and how criminology theory and crime analysis are important in
policing.
• A logical development of the explanation of answer to the exam question, which must
be supported by the use of multiple cited sources of information within the text and
listed in the References page.
• Demonstration of the student’s understanding of how each of the six or more theories
and practices are linked and contribute to the aim of crime prevention.
• Demonstration of the student’s critical thinking in relation to the effectiveness of the
theories and practices in achieving the aim of crime reduction.
• A summary of the information and explanation that has been developed.
• A conclusion based upon the information and explanation provided in the essay.
