Students will submit their
assignments of 3-5 pages of text in length (the title page does not count towards total number of
pages for the assignment). Each assignment shall answer the following questions:

Why is the selected subject relevant with the course?
•
What is the relationship between the selected subject and the relevant week’s material?
(So relate Social Structure and Wealth with Social stratification)
•
Why do you think that your selected subject is important in understanding sociology?
•
What are some specific examples you can provide to establish a relationship with the
selected subject and society?
Each assignment may be written in either formal (third
-person) or journal (first-person) style.
The student will utilize APA
format for the citation of direct quotes and information from the
article (no bibliography is necessary).

Each assignment requires a title page with the following information:
•
Student name and student-number (e.g., John Smith, 00001111)
•
Indication of the submission and date (e.g., Writing Assignment 1, date)
•
The title of the unit related with assignment (e.g., Week 2: Culture)
Each assignment will be graded out of a possible 20 marks (half and quarter marks will be
awarded to reflect the enti
re percentage scale e.g. 13.75/20). The approximate marking rubric
follows:

Introduction and Thesis (IT) [x out of 5]
Identification of the relationship and arguments.
•
Summary and Discussions (SD) [x out of 10]
Development and discussion of themes, and information cited from the lecture.
•
Conclusion and Analysis (CA) [x out of 5]
Contribution of selected subject toward understanding the unit.
Students must retain rough notes/drafts and a copy of any written work which they submit.
