Based on your close reading of the texts, explore the two separate but intertwined ideas of freedom and equality. Consider how freedom and equality of colonial America are thought of differently from our ideas of freedom and equality.
While we may think the people of the past are wrong in their thinking, remember they could not imagine the world (or these concepts) as we do today (also, be aware that the people of the future will judge us similarly). Clearly we will think our beliefs are superior to the people of the past, however, that is not the argument to be made here.
