Research Report (30%)
Context, Purpose, and Audience
In
your research report, you will write clearly and concisely about a social
justice issue you’ve developed an expertise in throughout the term. You’ll need
to synthesize evidence about your topic from credible sources, demonstrating
that you have a strong grasp of the professional and scholarly conversations
that are going on around it, and then weigh in with your own opinions based on
the solid evidence and data that you’ve gathered.
The
purpose of research reports is to educate the public, engage with other
professionals in the field, and influence public policy.
For
this assignment, imagine you are writing to a professional audience who has
some degree of familiarity with this topic, but is eager to learn more through
your presentation of the information and the recommendations based on your
research. This person has high standards in terms of what they expect from your
research. You need to exhibit knowledge and expertise in this area and
demonstrate that you’ve done solid research using credible sources that you
document responsibly in APA style.
Structure and Organization
Below
is a concise outline of the structure your report should have. For full
descriptions and explanations of what is needed in each section, please see the
structure and organization segment of Module 7.

Abstract
The abstract is a concise summary, usually just 150-200 words, of
your report’s main focus and findings, including 4-6 keywords that best
describe your report contents.
Introduction
Provides an overview of the social justice issue, providing some contextual information to help the
audience understand the stakes of the issue and the scope of your research.
Body
The body is the longest section of the report. It is where you will
synthesize and present the research you’ve done on your social justice issue,
focusing on the following three main considerations: causes and contributing
factors, effects, and solutions.
Conclusions/Recommendations
This section summarizes, in brief, the findings of the research
report, drawing highlights from the research findings described in the body
(causes, effects, and solutions). You might offer an original recommendation
here, but you could also weigh in on the solutions that you described in the
last section of your report.
APA References List
The report must follow APA conventions in citation, including in-text
citations and a full list of your research sources.
