For this week’s discussion, I would like you to focus around the following questions:
Citizens United was an important decision framing the ability of corporations to fund campaigns and issues. In fact, it has changed how campaigns work with matching funds and many elements of our system. Take a look at the decision and its implications. For the question: what do you think the impact has been on our electoral process of Citizens United? Moving forward, how can we adapt to the changing funding environment?
Second, the United States primary process is fairly unique. The usual wisdom is that candidates run to the extremes of their parties during the primary season and then dash to the center for the general election. Do you think the 2016 presidential election changed this dynamic? If you see a change, what implications do you see it having in the general election and beyond?
