Synthesis Paper of around 1500 words that uses a synthesis of several sources to come to a thesis about where you stand on the subject compared to your sources stances. The essay should rely on relevant and credible evidence from the library databases to convince an audience that the argument is worth considering.
When you join a conversation around a topic, you’ll begin to hear different voices in the conversation, different positions in the debate. College research asks you to try to find a gap in the conversation (what key point is being overlooked?) or to identify a way to extend the conversation or move it in a new direction. Your original argument is a claim YOU make based on YOUR understanding of the conversation amongst your sources. In this essay, you won’t simply be agreeing or disagreeing with someone else’s claim or position; rather, you will be showing that you understand the relationships between your sources’ viewpoints, and be adding your own ideas to the conversation as you build toward a thesis.
You are required to use 5-7 scholarly (peer-reviewed) sources located using the library databases. Keep in mind as you work that sources can be used for a variety of purposes: to define terms, explain background information, present expert testimony, provide a counterargument, or give statistics or other data.
Note: Make sure that you evaluate every source before you decide to use it. A properly formatted works cited page is required for this assignment.
