Overarching Notes:
• Upload your document in a Word-compatible form—No PDFs or Google Docs!
• Double-spaced in Times New Roman with 12-point font. The margins are all 1” = 2.54cm.
• I am going to have you format this assignment as though it were a journal article manuscript. For reference, when you do your actual dissertation proposal you will submit three chapters (an overview of your study, your lit review, and your methodology).

APA notes:
• Page numbers go in the top right
• Writing in the first person is acceptable in APA.
• Be sure to use an active voice and foreground the research (rather than the researchers). For example, instead of “experiments have been given,” use “we conducted experiments.”
• Use first person to discuss research steps rather than anthropomorphizing the work. For example, a study cannot “control” or “interpret” and the data does not “say” anything, but you and your co-authors can.
• When writing your paper, use levels to indicate the logical connection among headings.

• The title is separate from a level heading. In other words, the level headings begin after the title.
• There are no extra spaces (or returns) between sections.
• The sections and subsections in the following example, though common, are just one of the ways you can logically organize your study.

Overview of Problem
(Describe your research problem and briefly explain the background of your problem. Make sure to provide justification for your problem.)
Purpose Statement
(What is the purpose of your study? Make sure to clearly introduce the direction of your study. For example, from your purpose statement I should have a good idea of the research methodology you will use.)
Research Questions/Hypotheses
(You must have at least one inferential research question. Make sure your questions are clear enough that I can get a feel for the methodologies you will use. Make sure to write your question(s) and your hypotheses so that your variables are clearly identifiable.)
Conceptual/Theoretical Framework
(Explain the conceptual/theoretical framework that guides your study)
Literature Review
(In a typical proposal you would include a literature review section [or chapter]. In it you would describe the literature related to your problem. You would be sure to highlight a gap in the literature that you would fill with your research [this would help justify your research purpose]. For this assignment you will not do a formalized literature review. You will, however, still use literature to support/justify/explain certain ideas. For example, you will use sources to justify your research problem and to describe your conceptual/theoretical framework.)
