My name is Amanda Barry if you need that info.
Your final project is meant for you to integrate all of the skills that you have learned this semester. You should start early in the semester rather than wait until the last week, as it is a large project. The final project takes the place of the final exam (there will be no final exam). Therefore, the project is worth 20% of your final grade.
Part 1. Conduct research on your future career. I know it is early in your college career, and some of you may not know exactly what you want to do just yet which is perfectly fine. If that is you, please utilize this website to enter your interests and personal characteristics. It will give you numerous career clusters that fit your personal interests; from there, you can see numerous different jobs within those career clusters. Click through them and read about them until you find one that interests you. If you know what it is that you want to do after graduation, you may skip this step.
Write a 1-page paper in Microsoft Word in which you describe the job you chose. Include the following information and formatting:
education required to obtain this job
short description of the job itself and job responsibilities
outlook for available positions in the future (the Department of Labor’s website is a useful tool)
where these jobs are available – will you have to move?
average salary information for this type of job – make sure you find the entry level salary, as that is what you’ll make right out of school
promotion opportunities – how do you move up in this particular industry and to what job titles can you move into?
why you chose this job and why you think you’ll be good at it
your paper should be double-spaced with one inch margins all the way around
you should use Times New Roman, 12-point font
you should have a title page with your name, your class name, the professor’s name, and the due date all centered on the page
you should have a header that begins on page 2 with your last name
you should have a footer that begins on page 2 with the page number
include in-text citations
have a references page at the end. Ask for help if you need assistance with this so that you ensure that you do not plagiarize.
I encourage you to submit at least one rough draft to me to review before the final due date.
Part 2. You may have your choice of a few different locations to pursue your future career. Explore the salary offered in different locations in the country, as well as the cost of living in each of those locations. Next, you will create a budget for your future in Microsoft Excel. Include the following information and formatting:
each location should have its own tab in Excel
each tab should be labeled with the name of the city and state
each tab should have a different color
include a monthly budget for each location, including your expected salary and every day expenses (rent/mortgage, phone, power, water, tv, car, gas, groceries, insurance, entertainment, personal needs, tithing, savings)
you MUST use formulas to show how your expected annual salary becomes a monthly income, as well as the addition of expenses and your savings after you have paid all of your expenses
each tab should contain a pie chart of your monthly expenses
a fourth tab should be created for a bar chart that shows your monthly income as compared to your monthly savings after expenses for each job location
Part 3. Now that you have discovered a job you may want and explored a few different location options, you are going to choose the one you most prefer and present that information in Microsoft PowerPoint. Your PowerPoint should include the following:
a professional theme, either one you select from PPT templates or one that you create (bonus points may be earned for creating your own professional theme)
a title slide
transitions between all slides
at least one Smart Art graphic
at least 3 animations
at least 3 different slide layouts
at least 2 different colors of fonts
the name of your chosen job and location
your table from Excel for your chosen location
your pie chart from Excel for your chosen location
a slide explaining why you chose your specific location
recorded timing and narration (as though you were presenting this to the class)
Submit all documents to the final project assignment dropbox in Brightspace.
