There should be between 5-8 citations and/or direct quotes. A citation is a fact you learn from a source that is not common knowledge that you write about in your own words. A direct quote is copied word for word from the author and must be in “quotation marks.” Citations and direct quotes must cited in APA format both in the body of the paper and on the works cited page. either in a Professional book on pastry or a reference book related to food or baking.
1. Go to the library’s website http://library.citytech.cuny.edu
2. Go to the tab find books
3. Search the CUNY+ catalog by keyword
4. It is likely you won’t find an entire book about your pastry—try searching by these
subjects:
a. Cookery, French (or Cookery, Italian, etc.)
b. Confectionary
c. Cake
d. Pastry
5. Try looking in the library at the shelves under call number TX773 in both the reference
area and the main collection (stacks).
6. Look for an article in the library’s reference sources related to this topic such as:

JR F21How to evaluate material from the World Wide Web (www). Many sources on the WWW have not been fact-checked or edited as have traditionally published books, magazines, and journals. It is important to consider the following:
1. Have you heard of the website? For example, Epicurious.com or Food Network are well known.
2. Is the website connected to a known television show, magazine or other form of media that can be trusted?
3. Can the information be verified elsewhere? Is it accurate? 4. Can you ascertain who the author is and what are the credentials of the author? 5. Is it a personal webpage put up by a non-professional writer or chef? A blog by a nonprofessional (do not use blogs)?
A list of sources with a one sentence summary for each source is due October 5th before the paper is due. Cite the source and write a summary below it. Why is the source valuable to your research?
Give the full APA citation for each source including: 1. Author 2. Title 3. Journal or magazine 4. Place of publication if book 5. Publication date 6. Pages if printed material 7. URL if website 8. Database if retrieved from library database
3. Paper must be a minimum of three (3) pages, APA format, plus a cover page, a works cited page and the original business card and/or receipt from the bakeries or pastry shops visited. There is a guide to APA format on the library’s website. Copies of the full APA manual as well as a brief manual to citing online resources are in the library.
