THIS IS A POLICY PAPER!!!!!!!
Purpose:
To give students the opportunity to synthesize what they have learned in this
course…and to let you discuss “Too-Big-To-Fail” and other regulatory dilemmas.
Citations:
Giving credit to the
sources of your ideas is essential in academic work. Be sure to cite any direct
quotes or ideas that you have taken from a particular source. I suggest a
simple in-text citation form such as Levine and Zeros (1998 p. 32) with a
bibliography containing full information at the end of your paper, but you may
use footnotes or any other style that provides full bibliographic information.
Shadow
banking, regulation and crises:
Discuss the role of
shadow banks in creating the 2007-8 crisis.
Look at the repo market and
securitization in particular, including the “run on the repo”.
What are the
main dangers to financial stability posed by the shadow banking system in
general?
Does the Dodd-Frank or other more recent regulatory changes such as
the “Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act” of 2018 do
enough?
