This
word count does not include footnotes, endnotes, or bibliography. Your essay must conduct a

through close readings – which could be a comparative analysis of at least two
works. The essay must have a thesis and be argument-driven with convincing supporting evidence for your claims. DO NOT use secondary literature which
consist of analyses of the works we are reading and use ideas from them. This may count as plagiarism. The paper must consist of your own ideas and interpretations. Extra research should enrich your reading of the story (for example, if you want to deepen your understanding of the concept of “Orientalism” or “Exoticism” in a reading of one of the literary
works, you canconduct extra research for doing that).
