Discuss what you missed most during your 16 hours without electricity.

Without Electricity

For this assignment, pick any 16-hour period sometime within the next couple of weeks and go unplugged.
Do not use any electricity whatsoever. Among other things, this means no lights, television, radio, air
conditioning, car, elevator, telephone, computer, refrigerator, microwave, or stove.

During this 16-hour period, keep a detailed journal on all that you are doing to cope with the loss of your
electronic “necessities,” including the adjustments and/or improvisations you are making to “survive” and
how you are feeling about being forced to make these adjustments and/or improvisations. Afterward, reflect
upon and write about how dependent you are on electricity as described here. Discuss what you missed most
during your 16 hours without electricity. Consider how you would fare if a natural disaster, such as a
hurricane or an earthquake, forced you to go without electricity for weeks instead of 16 hours.

Reflect on the following:
I. Introduction
II. How dependent are you on electricity?
A. How would you fare if a natural disaster such as a hurricane or an earthquake forced you to go
without electricity for weeks instead of 16 hours?
B. To what extent were you really able to go electricity-free?
C. Use and cite concepts / key terms to support your points
III. What would happen if, starting tomorrow, all electricity was unavailable in the United States?
A. Would we (eventually) be better off? Or worse off? Why?
B. Use and cite concepts / key terms to support your points
IV. Conclusion

The shadowed areas indicate things you should include in your reflection for the best score possible.
