Neuroanatomy for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology 2nd edition
Matthew H Rouse
Please make sure you follow instructions and add sources. Remember the topic is Parkinson.
Instructions: Parkinson’s – the neurological impairments covered in this course: Your final paper will consist of three parts that are key to decision making when you work with a patient. Throughout the paper, make sure you reference readings and resources from this course to justify your selection and decisions. The final paper should be 5-7 pages long (excluding the title page and references), double spaced Times New Roman, 12 pt font. Remember to use APA style, in-text citations, and add the reference page for the resources you cited!
PART 1: Understanding Your Patient – Patient Profile
Create a patient profile for an individual with this impairment. Give your imaginary patient a name and a background, including their living situation, their interests and hobbies, their day-to-day responsibilities. You may use videos and accounts discussed in this course for inspiration, but do not simply copy them. Our patients are complex individuals with their own lives and stories!
Write a summary of how this impairment is presenting:
What is their physical appearance?
What specific deficits have they noticed?
How do they and/or their families notice it affecting their daily lives?
Your patient profile should be 1-2 pages in length. It may be helpful to review the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning to help think through this profile.
PART 2: Clinical Recommendations
In this section, think about what clinical recommendations you might make:
Do they need further testing?
Is further imaging recommended – MRI, CT, MBSS, FEES, etc. Specify and explain.
What further deficits might emerge with formal testing?
What would you predict the results of these to be?
Identify which area or areas of the neurological system would be involved in this impairment.
Your clinical recommendations should be 1-2 pages in length.
PART 3: Planning for Intervention
Finally, think about what you can do for your patient:
Which deficits can you treat?
Think through any cognitive, communication, swallowing, hearing deficits which may be involved. Once again, think through how these deficits are impacting your patient’s daily activities.
Find at least one treatment approach you might implement. Explain how you chose this approach and how it will address deficits involved.
Are there any compensatory strategies you could recommend to help your patient complete their tasks of daily living more effectively/safely despite their identified deficits?
How can you best educate your client/patient and their loved ones? Find one resource or create at least one resource, link it in your sources at the end, and explain in 1-2 sentences why you chose this resource. Make sure to include the link to the resource and reference it at the end of the case study. If you cannot find a resource you think will be beneficial for your client/patient, create a brief outline of key information you would include.
This section should be 2-3 pages in length.
