Of all the cyberspace models I’ve learned about over the course of the
class the cyber kill chain is my favorite. I feel that the other models
we learned about are interesting, but the cyber kill chain is more
exciting. I like the fact that in the cyber kill chain model it’s like
you must become the hacker to beat the hacker. Defensive methods are
created by studying how cyber-attacks are carried out. Then, using the
same methods, a defense is made to counter it. The way the cyber kill
chain is used, it can be compared to a dance or chess. A player makes a
move then it is followed by a similar move, but with the intent to stop
the first player. I have seen this sort of strategy used in chess,
checkers, war films and other forms of media and entertainment. To me,
it’s like watching a long-awaited sports match where the two teams are
neck and neck with high points on the board. Seeing new forms of cyber
security emerge from the very attack that was meant to destroy its
victim is like seeing a flower blossom in the middle of a concrete
sidewalk.
