Some questions to consider about Night of the Living Dead being in the public domain (the reasons for that are discussed in the Lecture Notes): Even if studios, distributors, tv stations and movie theater suffered no legal consequences for showing Night of the Living Dead, was it morally right to show, release, or distribute the film with no money being paid to Romero or anyone else in the cast and crew? If you directed such a successful film that everyone watched, how would you feel if you got no money from that success? Even if it is legal, is it right or fair that any filmmaker can remake Night of the Living Dead with exactly the same story and characters and pay no money to get permission? Just some things to consider as we look at the film.
