THE SET-UP
According to Kleinman, health care is being a special kind of cultural system that is continually created
and maintained by a society or country’s social and cultural context. In his view health care, including
mental health care, systems are a society’s “socially organized” response to disease (Kleinman, 1980).
In this assignment,you will (1) review and summarize articles on culture, race/ethnicity, perspectives
on mental health and use of mental health service; (2) conduct two brief interviews using the question
set provided below, and (3) summarize the findings from your interviews in the context of your
literature review.
