1. Set up a problem scenario where you describe a population, a sample, a parameter and a statistic for either a quantitative or categorical variable. Do not identify which is the population, sample, parameter or a statistic.
2. In this discussion board, you will practice creating a display for quantitative data using technology.
Initial Post Prompt
You need a dataset with quantitative data. You can choose to obtain this in two ways:
– Conduct a small survey (it doesn’t need to be random) where you ask a question that requires a single quantitative response,
OR
– Find a dataset online with quantitative data for a single variable. Searching through the datasets on StatCrunch or Kaggle are good places to start.
You will use the data to create a graph appropriate for seeing the distribution of a quantitative variable. You may use any software, such as Excel or StatCrunch.
3.
– Give an example of distribution of a quantitative variable that should use the median rather than the mean as its measure of center.
– Explain why it is that the median is the best measure of center for this distribution (explain using the outliers for the distribution or the shape of the distribution).
– Describe if the mean will be greater than the median or that the median will be greater than the mean. Explain why this is true.
