Write a paper, (double-spaced, 12 point font, and 1” margin, Times New Roman, paginate bottom center). This paper is an argumentative essay. We will be grading your paper along with the following criteria: (See Rubric in Course Content page.)
Literary Structure and Organization: Does your paper clearly show a definite structure—introduction, body, and conclusion? Are your ideas carefully organized? Do your main points fit together? Are your main points relevant to your topic? Is there a common thread—thesis—holding all your ideas together? Do you have an introduction that presents your subject matter? Does the body of the paper elaborate on your main points? Does your conclusion conclude?
Style and Grammar: Do you follow the rules of standard English? Is your spelling correct? Do you avoid ambiguity and vagueness and write in a clear manner? Do you show originality?
Content: Do you state your claim and supporting reasons clearly in the introduction and the rest of the paper? Do you consider relevant objections to your claim? Do you offer good rebuttals to these objections? Is your interpretation of the texts accurate? Are you letting the texts speak for themselves? Are you aware of what outside influences you are bringing to your reading? Are you giving a charitable interpretation of the texts?
Logical Structure: do you state your argument clearly? Are your conclusion and premises formed as propositions or assertions? Do your premises support your conclusion? Does your conclusion follow from your premises? Is your argument structure valid? If deductive, is it sound? If inductive is the conclusion probable? Are your premises plausible? Relevant? Adequate? Do you offer a counterargument against your own position? What objections do you raise against the counterargument?
