Make sure that you select opinion article or editorial – it should state one of those words somewhere near the top of the page, but the key is to ensure that it’s making an opinionated argument rather than reporting the news. Then, please answer the following questions:
In a few sentences, what is the article’s argument? (Note that an argument consists of a main claim plus evidence to support that claim).
Who do you think is the specific intended audience of this argument? Who are they trying to persuade?
How does the author attempt to appeal to that audience? What specific moves does the author make to try and persuade them? For example, do they choose specific kinds of evidence, or specific kinds of arguments, to appeal to that specific audience?
Would you consider yourself part of the intended audience? Why or why not?
Do you find the argument persuasive? Why or why not?
