First, read Chelsey Minnis’s poem “Bad Bad”:
Prompt 5: Chelsey Minnis, “Bad Bad” imitation
Your assignment for Prompt 5 is to write a love poem in the style of Minnis.
Requirements:
 It should be a long poem – at least 10 pages;bbbbbbbbbb
 But the per page word limit is 20-50 max;
 You must use (nearly) every character space on the page – that is, you should use the
page as a screen and each character space ———–like this, I mean———needs to
include some information, so that |||||||||| even an empty space starts to
accumulate significance;
 To supply the language, the terms of your love / hate / bitterness / desire, use a
minimum of 3 non-literary lexicons (a specific set of terms related to a particular field) –
that is, use your densest material, your weightiest textbooks from physics, or packaging
science, or organic chemistry, or Javascript, etc. At least one of these sources needs to
be an instruction manual that came with a product (like the terms and conditions that
came with your earbuds, or the like). In other words, you’re looking for storehouses of
language that you don’t think of as “poetic,” that you wouldn’t normally reach for to
express your feelings.
 As you compose the piece, try to alternate or braid the lexicons together – balance the
terminology, in other words, so the piece doesn’t lean too much in one direction. Use
your poetic license.
So, first gather your source material – stack up the heavy textbooks on your desk within your
reach, then write your long poem, figuring out how to fill the page.
