This assignment involves taking the perspective of a manager preparing for the role to lead contract negotiations for the business against one of the unions that represents a bargaining unit for their employees. Attached case materials include:
The current contract
A memo on Management priorities for the upcoming contract negotiation
Employee data on wages and vacation time
You should review this background material and write responses to the points 1 through 6 below in a response that is at least 1000 words in length. You should use the case materials and cite your textbook (The Labor Relations Process, W. Holley, Jr., W. Ross, R. Wolters) or online sources (preferable textbook if available) regularly to support your recommendations and the positions you take. The rubric used to evaluate Contract Negotiation Project is attached.

1. Summarize your bargaining objectives and explain why you have these objectives. For each objective, describe your bargaining range.
2. Describe what you believe to be the 3 most important objectives the union will have in these circumstances. For each of these, describe what you believe their bargaining range will be.
3. Detail the strategy you would like to use in negotiations to achieve your objectives. What are the reasons you are choosing these strategies? Be specific about how you will pursue your bargaining objectives via strategic negotiations.
4. Draft of set of ground rules for negotiations that you will propose to the union.
5. Evaluate the costs of the contract if you were to obtain your bargaining objectives. Explain the costs of the new contract.
6. Imagine a worst case scenario, an impasse which is leading to a work stoppage. Describe the most important contingencies you would want to manage in these circumstances and how you would react to those contingencies.
