PARAGRAPH #1 = INTRODUCTION TO TOPIC
Give the background information about the topic at issue. Specifically the seven ID (Identification) categories.
WHO-(I.E. give full names of WHO was a transcendentalist),
WHAT (I.E. – WHAT was the movment about),
WHEN(IE- WHEN did the movement start or WHEN was its “golden age”,
WHERE (IE – WHERE was it created)
WHY (IE – WHY Was it created)
HOW – (IE how did they do whatever they did),
Most importantly be sure to state the HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE of the movement (IE – what was so HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT about the topic/ or put another whay- what the big deal about this topic? Why should we care soo much?)

PARAGRAPH #2 and PARAGRAPH #3
Paragraphs #2 & #3 are Defense Paragraphs expanding on Reason #1 & Reason #2 of the Thesis statement. One paragraph per reason.
TO BE CLEAR – This is not where we give background info on the topic. If one of the ideas of the transcendentalists was to focus more on nature & spirituality, then the First Defense Paragraph defends one reason why these ideas are good for society and the second paragraph defends another.
HARD PART = PROPER INTRODUCTION SENTENCE
The most difficult part of the assignment is Creating a complete Introduction Sentences to the Defense paragraphs. Remember – A quality introduction sentence sums up what the the entire paragraph wil be about.
These will be difficult but are very useful exercises for the mind AND utilize all three of our learning goals.
For our class together – Please be sure to include the following three key components:
Restate the main argument (stated in the thesis Statement)
Restate one of the two reasons provided in the thesis statement
State – HOW the evidence provided (Evidence = the specific examples of art that the paragraph will reference) proves the argument
VALUE FOR THE CRITICAL THINKING INTRODUCTION SENTENCE

It helps Inform the audience of HOW the evidence supports the main argument claim. By summarizing HOW the evidence supports the main claim, the audience is better prepared to follow along/understand why the argument is a good argument.
By Creating our own pathways in the mind – it helps us to better recall and communicate the essence of the Argument while making future arguments easier to create and understand. In other words – it helps us remember/recall the logical train of thought/Argument,” and it helps the mind create such pathways in the future.
