Voter turnout in the US is low compared to many other democracies around the world. Turnout among particular demographics is especially low. In this week’s journal, please answer the following questions:
1. Why do you think certain groups of people (particularly non-whites, people with lower levels of education, and young people) are less likely to vote than others?
2. What are the implications of these trends in voter turnout? How might this affect who wins elections? In other words, considering what you know about who is most/least likely to vote, what kinds of candidates or what parties are at an advantage/disadvantage?
3. What can be done to change these trends in voter turnout? In your answer, be sure to consider the reasons why certain people don’t vote.
