What do the quotes reveal about concepts of American identity?

What do the quotes reveal about concepts of American identity? The American experience ? Is there an actual definition for one American culture? What are some of the differences between each individual’s definition? Is there anything you read from Chapter one that may apply to their specific viewpoints or perceptions on the “importance” (or lack thereof) of their racial/ethnic classifications?
